On Being The Right Size
When I was small,
I had fewer bones,
more legs.

I walked on water
with a spindly step
but could never

break the surface
without a stone
in my mouth,

a bit of ballast
in a ship turning back
to the New World

when its cargo of
rum and skin’s been
emptied in the Old.
